Football Wins 2024 Home Opener Over Compton

VALLEY GLEN, CA - The Los Angeles Valley College Football team won their 2024 home opener over Compton, 46-38.

The Monarchs jumped out to a commanding first quarter lead over Compton 19-0.  How they got there was a mix of offense and timely defense.  To open the scoring kicker Daylen Ortiz (picture three) kicked in a 39-yard field goal - his lone field goal of the game.  Defense wanted to get in on the action and tackled the Compton quarterback in their own endzone resulting in a safety - putting the Monarchs up 5-0 just three minutes into the game.  To finish the quarter the Monarchs scored two touchdowns - a 38 yard touchdown from Gavin Goulette (picture two) to Dominic Arango-Serna and a one yard reception from Daryus Warren to Ben Baker.

Compton opened up the second quarter with a 99-yard touchdown of their own.  The Monarchs didn't let that stand long, though, scoring another two touchdowns in the second quarter.  Christian Flores (picture four) ran in his first of two touchdowns in the game and Arango-Serna gathered his second touchdown of the game on a 61-yard pass from Goulette.

Cutting the lead down, in the third, Flores scored his second touchdown of the game.  Tevon Mitchell went on to score the Monarchs final touchdown in the fourth quarter finally putting the game out of reach for Compton.

Quarterback Goulette finished with 150 total yards and two touchdowns.  Wide Receiver Arango-Serna finished the game with 109 yards and two touchdowns.  Runningback Flores had just 18 total yards in the game but that was all he needed to score two touchdowns of his own for the Monarchs.  Kicker Ortiz was 1/1 in field goals made and 5/5 in extra points made.

LAVC Monarchs Football will play the Hall of Fame Football game on Saturday, September 21 at 6:00 pm against Victor Valley.
