The Santa Monica College (SMC) Corsairs' football team came from behind for the second week in a row to win 24-10.
After the College of the Desert (COD) Roadrunners took a 10-0 lead in the second quarter, SMC ran off 24 straight points to secure the victory and start the season 2-0. The Corsairs got on the board with less then 3 minutes to go in the 1st half with a Field Goal by Jaiden Espada. Espada, is now 2-2 on FGs this season, and 10-10 on PATs.
Ayden Martinez stole the momentum for SMC when he intercepted his first pass of the season early in the 3rd quarter. The Corsairs capitalized on the next play with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Michael Cruz to Sean Grier.
The Corsair defense, led by Carson Cox's 8 tackles, locked the COD offense down in the second half, holding the Roadrunners to 45 total yards after halftime. Dominque Morganfield had a big game while leading the Corsairs with 3.5 Tackles for loss.
Game Notes:
SMC has started 2-0 for the first time since 2015.
Pierce Reynoso's 32 Carries and 187 yards rushing are both the highest for an SMC Running back since Christoph Hirota's 26 Carries for 139 yards in 2019.
The kicking game came up special for the second week in a row, with a two blocked Field Goals after returning a Kick-Off for a touchdown in week 1.

The Corsairs travel to Chaffey College to try and put a stop to the longest active winning streak in Southern California. The Panthers are riding a 13-game winning streak after starting the season 2-0 with wins over LA Valley and LA Pierce.
