Football Scores 27 unanswered points to win Season Opener
The LA Pierce Football team visited Compton College Tartars on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.
It wouldn't be a great start for Pierce as the first play of scrimmage was a fumble recovered by Compton.
Despite the turnover, the Tartars were unable to come away with any points. The first half appeared to be a deadlock with neither team being able to find the endzone, until late in the second quarter when the host would take a 7-0 lead.
The Brahmas down 7-0 at halftime went on to score 20 points in the third quarter and 27 total unanswered. Sophomore quarterback Maqael Henderson recorded his first of four touchdowns in the third quarter with a 5-yard run in which he dragged bodies into the end zone.
Pierce in their next possession took the lead when Henderson connected with sophomore Randy Peters on a 23-yard touchdown. The Pierce defense did a great job of stopping Compton on third and fourth down. Compton went 0-9 on third down and 0-7 on fourth down. Just before the end of the third quarter Pierce found the endzone again with sophomore wide receiver Tennoris Merkel recording a 29-yard touchdown.
Freshman Stephan McAllister caught a 15-yard touchdown to give the Brahmas a 20-point lead.
Brahma Blast
Sophomore quarterback Maqael Henderson went 14-30 for 187 yards with three touchdowns. He also rushed for 68 yards and another touchdown.
The Brahma defense held Compton to seven points, recorded five sacks, and held Compton to zero first downs on third down and fourth down.
Pierce turns around for their season opener on September 14th against Chaffey. Kick-off is at 6:00 p.m.
