After spotting host Orange Coast College to an early 7-0 lead, the Cerritos College football team scored 21 straight points to take a 21-7 lead into intermission. They rode that momentum to score 28 consecutive points and went on for a 28-14 National Division Central League win on Saturday night. The Falcons (2-2, 1-0) will return home next Saturday to host rival Long Beach City College at 6:00 p.m. with the Crosstown Cup on the line. The Vikings are in current possession of the Crosstown Cup after their 30-14 win last season. Cerritos holds a 31-25-1 series lead. The win was the 13th in the last 14 meetings against Orange Coast.

Faced with 4th and 10 at the Pirates (0-4, 0-1) 29-yard line late in the second quarter, freshman quarterback Evan Tomich (Mayfair HS) connected with freshman wide receiver Saxson Va'a (Banning HS) for a touchdown at time expired. That gave Cerritos a 21-7 lead and was the third scoring strike for Tomich in the first half.

Taking over possession of the ball at midfield and down, 7-0, Tomich used a 39-yard completion to sophomore wide receiver Chase Grosfeld (Los Alamitos HS) to get the Falcons into the end zone for their first score of the night. On their next possession, the Pirates decided to go for it on 4th-and-10, but came up short, which turned the ball back over to Cerritos. Tomich came out throwing and found sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Blair (Downey HS) down the sideline for a 42-yard reception, which put the ball at the OCC 18-yard line.

Cerritos took a 14-7 lead when Tomich and Va'a ended the drive with a 15-yard touchdown pitch and catch. The play came on a 4th-and-7 play, with the Falcons converting a pair of fourth down conversions in the first half. The two closed out the scoring in the first half with their heroics on the last play of the first half.

Keeping the Pirates at bay on defense was sophomore defensive tackle Leroy Palu (Mayfair HS), who spent most of the game in their backfield. He recorded six stops, as well as four tackles for loss, while sophomore linebacker Caleb Nuhi-Yandall (Banning HS) finished the night with a pair of tackles for loss to go with his five tackles.

The offensive success didn't slow down in the second half, as Cerritos opened the third quarter with a 68-yard scoring drive. After seven consecutive rushes that earned 42 yards, Tomich found his brother, Owen Tomich (St. John Bosco HS) for 25 yards, which put the ball on the 1-yard line. Sophomore Cheo Medina (Northview HS) took it the final yard for a touchdown and a 28-7 lead.

It was another defensive stop that forced OCC to punt late in the third quarter, which gave the Cerritos offense another chance to add to their lead. Medina took off for 28 yards on the first play of the drive, which put the Falcons in Pirates territory. They were able to drive the ball to the 16-yard line until Tomich was picked off in the end zone on another fourth down attempt, ending the offensive drive.

Tomich finished the night completing 25-of-41 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns, with Va'a pulling in two of them. Grosfeld led all receivers with 10 receptions for 113 yards, while Blair pulled in six passes for 92 yards.
