Owls Take Down Pirates on Sophomore Day

Citrus College Football hosted Orange Coast College this afternoon in a conference matchup that resulted in a 59-19 win for the Owls.
Citrus improves to 4-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in conference games while orange Coast College goes to 1-8 overall and 1-5 in conference games on the year.
The Owls forced the Pirates to go three and out after the opening kickoff and drove the field 45 yards ending in a 10-yard touchdown run by Jamahl Wilson to go ahead 7-0.
After stopping OCC on their ensuing drive the Owls found the endzone again, this time a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Jamahl Wilson, giving Citrus a 14-0 lead. The Pirates responded early in the 2nd quarter with a rushing touchdown of their own to make the score 14-6 after a missed Pirates extra point.
Jake Denerson hit Emmanuel Mogbolu for a 49-yard touchdown to go up 21-6. On the Pirates ensuing drive they found the endzone to get back within nine points after a missed 2pt conversion to make the score 21-12.
The Owls quickly responded on their next drive when Jake Denerson found Erik Saiz for a 17-yard touchdown to go up 28-12. After forcing the Pirates to punt on their ensuing drive, Citrus took a commanding 35-12 lead when Jamahl Wilson broke four tackles on a 72-yard touchdown run, his third touchdown of the game.
On Citrus' last drive of the first half, Julian Borrayo scored on a 37-yard touchdown pass from Jake Denerson giving the Owls a 42-12 lead at halftime.
Citrus ended up scoring three more times in the 2nd half, a 17-yard touchdown reception by Erik Saiz from Jake Denerson, a Hakim Haliburton 1-yard rush and a Lucas "Maui" Froemel 35-yard field goal to go up 59-12. Orange Coast College found the endzone late in the 4th quarter to make the final score 59-19.
The Owls were led by Jake Denerson who completed 11 of 19 passes for 219 yards and four touchdowns, Denerson added 87 yards on the ground. Jamahl Wilson led the Owls on the ground with 136 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Emmanual Mogbolu rushed for 62 yards on his 11 carries while Hakim Haliburton rushed for 34 yards and one touchdown.
Julian Borrayo caught three passes for 57 yards and one touchdown, Emmanuel Mogbolu racked up 49 yards and a touchdown on his lone reception while Erik Saiz caught two touchdown passes for 34 yards.
On defense Hunter Corbin led the Owls with 10 tackles, Jordan Garcia had six tackles, Thomas White had six tackles, Keenan Eck had one sack, Donovan Perez had two pass breakups while Damond Stewart and Jacob Monroe each recorded one pass breakup.
Citrus will round out their season on the road against Long Beach City College next Saturday, November 15th at 5 p.m.
