Pirates fall to Mounties on Sophomore Night
COSTA MESA -- It wasn't the way the 2024 sophomores wanted to go out at LeBard Stadium, but in the end, the Orange Coast College football team went up against the top team in the state, Mt. San Antonio, and fell to the Mounties, 62-3, on Saturday night.
The Mounties (8-0, 5-0 in conference) set the tone right from the opening kickoff when Adrion Boyd went 88 yards to put Mt. SAC ahead just 11 seconds into the game.
Prior to the game, the Pirates acknowledged and honored the 13 sophomores playing in their final home contest for their Pirate careers. Those 13 were QB Zach Congalton, WR Isaiah Esquibel, LB Joseph Near, RB Paul Mendoza, LB Charlie Iafeta, DB Rodney Clark, DB Nolan Oslin, K Calvin Kirchoff, OL Ane Shibuya, OL William Ramage, OL Nathan Caracheo, OL Juan Ramirez and OL Daryn Bernard.
"Every sophomore class leaves behind a legacy we build on for the next year and this class was no different," OCC head coach Bubba Gonzalez said of his sophomores prior to Saturday's game. "This sophomore class brought heart, toughness and competitiveness to every practice and every game. As we build this program brick by brick, I am so proud and grateful to this class for the commitment and dedication to the program, their teammates and their own future endeavors. I am forever grateful to these young men and they will always have a special place in my heart."
