Raiders defeats Bakersfield on Tyler Woods' game winning Field Goal in OT to snap 4 game losing streak
The Moorpark College Football team returned home after a long month away from Griffin Stadium hosting Bakersfield in National Northern conference play. The Raiders brought a 4 game conference losing streak into the contest and were hoping to snap it against the Renegades. In the end, it took a little extra time but the Raiders got the win on Tyler Woods' Field Goal in OT, 26-23.
The Raiders took the opening kick and drove to their 47 before the drive stalled. Bakersfield started their initial drive Raiders 27. From there, the visitors drove the ball down to their 13 yard line where a 3rd and 10 pass fell in the endzone. The Rengades opted for the FG and took a 3-0 lead. On the kick-off, Ryan Johnson fumbled the ball back to the Renegades and their 27 yard line. 5 plays later, the visitors had a 10-0 lead. The Raiders then put together a 10 play drive that ended in a 14 yard Kadyn Parr pass to Jacob Stewart TD pass to close the Bakersfield lead, 10-7.
The second quarter turned into a defensive battle which included a Bakersfield blocked FG attempt and a Raiders fumble that stopped each team's scoring chances in the quarter.
The third quarter with Bakersfield receiving the ball and they 70 yards in two plays to extend their lead to 16-7. The PAT sailed wide left. (keep that thought). The Raiders took the kick-off and 3 plays later, Parr rushed for a 38 yard TD to cut the score to 16-14. From there, the bend but don't break Raider defense stopped the following Rengade drive. At that point, Parr took the game over. Parr directed a 12 play 55 yard drive that stalled at the 2 yard line but a illegal chop block moved the ball back to 17 yard line causing the Raiders to opt for the 3 points. Woods' 34 yard FG was true and the Raiders took their first lead of the game, 17-16. On the very next kick-off, the Raiders special teams caused a fumble to get the ball right back on their 30 yard line. The Raiders using a little razzle dazzle at the 28 yard, Rhys Kelly took a pitch and found a wide open Parr who took it to the 3. Parr capped off the mini drive with a 3 yard TD to extend the Raider lead to 23-16.
The Renegades tied the game at 23-23 with 4:35 left in the game to set-up the late game drama. The Raiders marched down the field using Parr arm and legs down to the 4 with :03 seconds left. Tyler Wood's FG attempt was just outside the right upright. End of regulation, 23-23.
In OT, the Raiders won the toss and opted to play defense. The Renegades couldn't move the ball and were forced to attempt the FG. The sailed wide left. The Raiders took over and used three plays to set up the ball in the middle for the game winner. Woods' 39 yard attempt was dead center. 26-23 Final.
Kadyn Parr was 18 of 36 passing for 234 yards and a TD. He also rushed for 118 yards on 18 carries. Corbin Hale had 5 catches for 60 yards. On the defensive side, Tyler Woods led the Raiders with 13 tackles with Nolan Story had 10 tackles.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 3-6 overall, 1-4 in National Northern Conference and will next be at College of the Canyons, November 2nd at 1p.
