The Cerritos College football team closed out their 2024 season with a strong 49-23 win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Saturday night. The Falcons capped off their season with a 5-5 record.

Chase Grosfeld pulled in a school-record four TD passes Highlighting the win were the school records set by sophomore quarterback Dylan Eldredge (Cypress HS) and sophomore wide receiver Chase Grosfeld (Los Alamitos HS). Eldredge set a new record with seven touchdown passes, while Grosfeld was the recipient of four of them. Eldredge completed 14-of-24 passes for 241 yards and broke the old record of six TD passes, which was set by BJ Denker (2011) and Mike Ernst (1969). As for Grosfeld, he ties the school record of four, which was set previously by De'Jai Whitaker in 2015 against College of the Canyons and Sean Willis in 1987 against Mt. San Antonio College.

Eldredge and Grosfeld (pictured, left) connected twice in the first quarter to give Cerritos a 14-0 lead over the Huskies. The Falcons took the opening drive downfield in two plays, with Grosfeld racing into the end zone from 46 yards out to score. Sophomore Angelo Miranda (Downey HS/East Los Angeles College) put the team in good field position with his 33-yard kickoff to start the game. After the defense held, it took Cerritos six plays, as Grosfeld scored from 28 yards out after sophomore running back Cheo Medina (Northview HS) gained 18 yards on the previous three plays.

Before the end of the first half, Cerritos would score two more times, thanks in part to a Huskies turnover. Taking over possession of the ball at the East LA 40-yard line, Eldredge tossed his third touchdown pass of the night, as he found sophomore tight end Jaylen Baker (Mayfair HS) alone on the back corner of the end zone from 23 yards out.

Sophomore strong safety Ryan Tuaolo (St. John Bosco HS/UNLV) put Cerritos back in scoring position after he picked off a Zachary Camarena pass near midfield and returned it 27 yards to the Huskies 20-yard line with 1:35 left on the clock. Three carries by Medina set the table for Grosfeld to grab his third touchdown pass of the first half, as he crossed the goal line from a yard out on a quick strike pass.

Sophomore wide receiver Gavin Porch (Los Alamitos HS) got in on the action in the third quarter when he pulled in a 10-yard pass for a touchdown to give the Falcons a 35-7 lead. It was a 30-yard pass to Grosfeld that put the team in position to score, as he was tackled at the five-yard line.

Grosfeld, who finished the game with seven receptions for 139 yards, broke the touchdown reception record late in the third quarter from 15 yards out after Eldredge tossed a short pass to Porch on fourth down and he raced 19 yards, which was followed by the touchdown. The passing record was broken on the next Cerritos drive, with sophomore Malachi Wright (Mayfair HS) hauling in a 10-yard pass on the first drive of the fourth quarter.

On the other side of the ball, sophomore linebacker Caleb Nuhi-Yandall (Banning HS) led the team with 12 stops, with the trio of EJ Smith (Warren HS), Rodney Hala (Downey HS) and Adrian Castro (La Serna HS) all finished with six tackles.
