CHULA VISTA — After trailing for most of the night, the Grossmont College Griffins stormed back in front of hundreds of South Bay and East County fans to take a 41-31 come from behind victory over Southwestern in the season opener for both teams.
Elia Kirisimasi threw for nearly 400 yards with four touchdowns to lead the Griffin (1-0) attack. Kirisimasi's favorite target was Dillon Gebase who caught six passes for 113 yards and a touchdown. Leading the ground attack was Keiyon Holloway with 94 yards on only seven carries with a touchdown. Holloway also reeled in three passes for 44 yards receiving.
Aldo Olweny led all tacklers with eight stops, five solo, along with a pass breakup.
The Griffins will try to get started with two in a row as they host Citrus on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Mashin-Roth Memorial Field for a 3:00 p.m. kickoff.
*Stats maybe off or adjusted as Southwestern has several questionable stats on the State website.
