The Olympian football team is riding high after a 35-28 victory over Mt. San Jacinto College, improving their overall record to an impressive 6-1 and 3-1 in the National Southern League. The team currently trails only Riverside College (4-0) in the conference standings.
Starting quarterback Jax Leatherwood had a standout performance, completing 11 of 19 passes for a season-high 255 yards and four touchdowns. This included a 64-yard touchdown pass to Jalil Tucker, surpassing his previous season high of 242 yards against Golden West College on September 21.
Tucker also had a career day, bringing in three touchdowns and totalling 138 yards, including the 64-yard reception. The Leatherwood-to-Tucker connection proved to be unstoppable at times during the game.
On the defensive side of the ball, Brandon Worsley led the team with seven tackles (five solo, two assists). John Sheppard also recorded seven tackles, along with a forced fumble and an interception. Thomas Graham contributed an interception and a pass breakup. As they have done all year, this defense is opportunistic, and when firing on all cylinders, will give any offense trouble.
The Olympians will host Southwestern College on Saturday, November 2nd, in a game that is sure to be exciting given the two teams' long-standing rivalry. Following that, the team will travel to face conference-leading Riverside City College in a crucial matchup that could determine the conference champion.
