Football post season bowl bid takes a hit in loss to Canyons
The Moorpark College Football team made the short trip to Santa Clarita to take on College of The Canyons in National Northern Conference action. Having just come off an OT win over Bakersfield, the Raiders would need another solid effort and mistake free football to keep their post season bowl bid alive. Despite outgaing the Cougars 372 yards to 162 and first downs, 21-14, the Raiders couldn't hang on to the football which led to a 27-21 defeat. With the loss, the Raiders are 1-4 in conference, 3-5 overall.
The first quarter was scoreless as both teams stuck to their script. Canyons was driving to close out the first but when the field was flipped, they wwould eventually score. On the ensuing kick-off, the Raiders fumbled and the Cougars turned it into 3 points. After the kick-off, the Raiders would cough up the ball again which led to a Cougar TD, 17-0 12:20 left in the 2nd quarter. After 3 possesion exchnages, the Raiders got the ball back with4:30 left in the half. Kadyn Parr directed an 11 play 63 yards drive that ended when he found Conley Moskot for an 11yard TD. Raiders still trail 17-7 with :18 sec left. On the the ensuing kick-off, a breakdown in Raiders special teams led to a 94 yard TD return and took the wind out the Raider' sail. 24-7, COC at the half.
The Raiders didn't score again until the 4th quarter. Parr found Corbin Hale for 23 yard TD. PAT failed. Canyons would add a field goal with 5:24 left in the game to make it 27-13, Canyons.
Parr directed a two minute drill that led to his 6 yard TD run, 2 pt conversion good with :22 left. COC recovered the onside kick to end the game, 27-21.
Parr was 26-37 passing with 288 yards, 2 TDs. Dameian Hernandez had 7 catches for 94 yards. Nolan Story had 8 tackle and JAson Hawes had 6 tackles.
The Raiders will next host Santa Barbara, who was recently was put on probation, Saturday, 11/9 at 6p.
