BAD BREAKS LEAD TO LOSS

BAD BREAKS LEAD TO LOSS

MOORPARK — Central Michigan University has a page on their Computer Science website about Murphy's Law, one of the lines to describe Murphy's Law is "Left to themselves, things tend to go from bad to worse."

That would be a good way of explaining how the Raiders of Moorpark (2-2) defeated the Griffins (2-2) 32-24 on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Griffin Stadium.

Grossmont out-gained Moorpark, ran more plays, had more than double third down conversions, had half the number of punts and even held the ball for more than 10 minutes more than the Raiders. Adding all of those numbers and stats up, you would think it would be a blowout in the Griffins favor. You would think anyway.

To put it bluntly, the Raiders scored six offensive points all night, the other 26 points came from two Interception returns, a blocked punt and a punt return for a touchdown.

Elia Kirisimasi had a sub-par night in the pocket going 22-for-49 for only 149 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Backup Trenton Giles was 8-of-18 for 78 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

On the ground, of the total 11 ball carriers in the game, the most any single player could amass was Keiyon Holloway's 55 yards on 13 carries. Giles ran one in from his QB spot for the only touchdown on a running play.

Stefan Whelchel was the only receiver to get over 100 yards with his four catches for 105 yards and a touchdown.

The Griffin defense held the Raiders to a pedestrian 136 yards of total offense on 60 plays. On the offensive side, the Green and Gold had 13 possessions with the average start of those possessions at the Griffin 31.5 yardline.

Grossmont had more than enough opportunities to win this game, but a couple bad or lack of tackles got the win for Moorpark.

G-House will play at Mashin-Roth Memorial Stadium next week when they host Santa Ana, kicking off at 3:00 p.m. on October 1.
