Needing some home-cooking after two rough road losses, East LA College Football was able to execute in all facets of the game against an Orange Coast College team that's giving up an average of 51.5 points per game. The Huskies (3-2, 1-1) indeed put up 51 points en route to a dominating 51-7 win over the visiting Pirates(0-5, 0-2).

The Pack's offense finally got untracked with 347 yards of total offense, and the defense had it's best game of the year by limiting OCC to 2.9 yards per play. But it was East LA's special teams that allowed them to dominate field position and even score a safety: Kicking off after a Trilian Harris 18-yd TD pass to Jaylen Hutton gave the Huskies a 14-0 lead, Tobey Lau tried to scoop the ball up for a return but couldn't get a grasp on it. With the ball trickling backwards into the end zone, Lau tried again to pick it up but was met by Husky gunners and sandwiched. The ball bounced out the back of the end zone for the safety, and to add insult to injury, OCC got flagged with a personal foul call at the end of the play, forcing them to kickoff from their 10 instead of their 25-yard line. The ensuing kickoff was booted only 28 yards, fielded by freshman Andre Watkins and returned seven yards to set the Huskies' offense up with only needing 31 yards to paydirt.

They got there on four plays, with the capper a 11-yd TD rush by Keyondrick Douglass to ultimate give the home Green a 23-0 lead. They were never seriously threatened after that.

HUSKY BITS

  • All three ELAC quarterbacks got into the action, and each threw a TD pass. Jeliun Carter's 11-yd TD throw to Jaylin Moore was his first of the season.
  • The Huskies' defense had their best game of the season, giving up only seven points while totaling five sacks and 11 TFLs.

ELAC has a bye next Saturday, which will go a long way to getting many of their injured starters ready to return to the field.

In two weeks, East will travel to Long Beach City College to face the Vikings in the second annual Clash of the Presidents' Cup.
