Two of the top teams in the CCCAA went head-to-head Saturday night, with No. 3-ranked Mt. San Antonio College grabbing a 42-21 victory over No. 7-ranked Citrus College.

The Owls drop to 3-1 on the year and open conference action down 0-1 after seeing their impressive 17-game winning streak come to a close. The Mounties keep their record unblemished, sitting at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in conference.

Citrus finished with 273 total offensive yards, with almost half coming from the run game (137) and the other half coming from the passing game (136).

The Mounties struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter, but the Owls responded back early in the second as Maurice Hampton ran in for a two-yard touchdown.

It was an action-packed second as Mt. SAC answered with a touchdown before Citrus scored again off a Kannon Katzer touchdown. The Mounties, however, scored two quick touchdowns in the final six minutes of the quarter to jump out to a 28-14 lead at the half.

Mt. SAC kept coming and scored another two touchdowns in the third to up its lead to 42-14.

Citrus tried to battle back and scored early in the fourth, but the margin proved to be insurmountable as the Mounties closed out the 42-21 victory.

The Owls look to shake things off next week on the road, heading to Golden West College for a noon kickoff on Saturday, Sept. 30.
