BIG HORNET WIN

No. 4 Fullerton took on No. 10 San Diego Mesa at home Saturday night for a Southern Conference showdown and beat the Olympians 17-7.

Fullerton College (7-1) and Golden West College (7-1 overall) remain the only undefeated teams in the SCFA National-Southern Conference with 3-0 records.

The last time the Olympians and Hornets battled it out on the gridiron was last season with FC winning it 31-16. The first time the two teams met was in 1968, and the Hornets won that game 46-0. Tonight's win included; the all-time series now stands at 26-5.

Fullerton took advantage of the Olympians early in the game, scoring at 9:05 in the first quarter. Quarterback Brandon Nunez hit Jordan Smith from 21-yards out for the touchdown.

In the beginning of the second quarter, the Hornets went up 14-0 thanks to Tyrell Greene Jr's 5-yard run.

San Diego Mesa got on the board at the end of the second on an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Gunnar Grey to Anthony Gilpin.

The final score of the game came with 2 seconds left on the clock before the end of the first half when the FC offense quickly got the ball down the field from some great throws from Brandon Nunez hitting Will Gipson (24 yards) and Aidan Koenig (17 yards and 6 yards). Kicker Jonathan Fobear did the rest kicking a 20-yard field goal.

The second half was a defensive struggle for both teams with Fullerton stepping up to seal the game with 3 fourth down stands and multiple pass breakups (Kasyus Kurns, Khadari Kurns, Jeremiah McNeeley, Kristian Cross 3, and Maximus Ahoia with 4).

QB Brandon Nunez had an efficient night going 17-26 for 178 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. Tyrell Green Jr. rushed for 114 yards on 21 carries with a TD. Aidan Koenig had 7 catches for 80 yards and Jordan Smith had 4 catches for 49 yards.

Up Next: Fullerton (7-1 overall, 3-0 Southern Conference) will travel down south to Saddleback College on Saturday, November 5th for another conference matchup. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm.
