Football Survives Road Test to Remain Unbeaten in Mountain League Play

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - College of the Desert football survived a stern road test to remain unbeaten in American Mountain League play, as they held on to defeat East Los Angeles 21-20 on Saturday evening in Monterey Park.

Sophomore quarterback Stephen Johnson II (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos HS) was 19-30 for 191 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing 15 times for 44 yards and a third score.  

Sophomore wide receiver Marquis D. Kingery (Carmel, IN/Carmel HS) and freshman wide receiver Reginald Macon (Fort-Worth, TX/Boswell HS) each caught one touchdown pass, as sophomore wide receiver Tristian Buyck (Montgomery, AL/Sydney Lanier HS) led the way with eight catches for 82 yards.  

Sophomore cornerback Zeriam Jackson (Chicago, IL/Brooks HS) led the Roadrunner defense with 10 tackles, while freshman cornerback Devin Rose (Brooklyn, NY/Poly HS) recorded his first interception of the season.

College of the Desert (4-3, 4-0) maintains its hold on the top spot of the American Mountain League, and will return to the road next Saturday, October 31 for a 6 p.m. game against Southwestern.
