Football Improves to 3-0 in Mountain League Play Following Homecoming Win

PALM DESERT, Calif. - College of the Desert football improved to 3-0 in American Mountain League play, as they downed visiting El Camino-Compton Center 61-32 in front of a raucous Homecoming crowd on Saturday evening at Boone Field in Palm Desert.

Sophomore quarterback Stephen Johnson II (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos HS) turned in another stellar performace, as he completed 20 of 35 passes for 403 yards and five touchdowns.  He also carried  the ball eight times for 43 yards and two touchdowns.

Freshman running back Anthony Ellison (Banning, CA/Banning HS) ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, while fellow freshman running back, Joshua Jeffrey (Fredrick, MD/Tuscarora HS), scored one touchdown on five carries.  

Sophomore wide receiver Tristian Buyck (Montgomery, AL/Sydney Lanier HS) went over the century mark in receiving yards for the third consecutive game, as he hauled in seven passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns.  Sophomore wide receivers Marquis D. Kingery (Carmel, IN/Carmel HS) and Johan Velez (La Quinta, CA/La Quinta HS) each caught one touchdown pass from Johnson, as well.

 Sophomore cornerback Zeriam Jackson (Chicago, IL/Brooks HS) led the Roadrunner defense, as he made seven total tackles while intercepting two passes.  

College of the Desert (3-3, 3-0) currently sits alone at the top of the American Mountain League standings, and will look to continue its winning ways this  Saturday, October 24 when they travel to East Los Angeles for a 6 p.m. game.
