After a slow start that saw West LA with a six point lead – and it could have been more – Marauder Football woke up and scored 23 points in four minutes to walk away with their second straight win – 51-18 over the Wildcats.
The spree began with a safety on a Reginald Love blocked punt that went out of the end zone. Two minutes later, Trevonte Coleman plowed in from five for his first of four TDs on the day.
The Marauders intercepted the No. 6 quarterback in the state, Jorge Reyna, three times and each time AVC scored immediately after.
The first was Coleman again from three capping a 14 yard drive.
Then the No. 9 quarterback in the state, Blake Shepherd went to work, hitting Alex Byers for 34 and 55-yard strikes to push AVC to 30-6 with three minutes left in the half.
Shepherd ended the night with 265 yards passing, putting him third all time for a Marauder season – just four away from being the third Marauder to pass for 2,000 yards in a season. Byers ended the night with 125 yards on four receptions.
And Shepherd figured out other ways to help the offense – his 58 yard scramble and nine yard effort for a score made the scored 37-12 early in the third. Shepherd ended with 115 yards rushing on eight carries.
Coleman scored the final two Marauder scores to give him four TDs on a 10 carry, 66 yard night. He also had two tackles and a breakup on defense.
And while Coleman now becomes the Marauders' leading scorer, he has dropped to second in AVC defensive stats, especially with the play of Graeson Vereen, who seemed to be everywhere for the Marauders and recorded 17 tackles – nine of them solo – on the night.
