FOOTBALL CONTINUES TO IMPROVE - NOW 3-0
In a thrilling display of skill, teamwork, and unwavering determination, Chaffey celebrated a resounding victory Saturday that had fans roaring with excitement. The 57-24 triumph over Santa Monica wasn't just about securing the win; it was a testament that the Panthers are back and mean business.
From the opening kickoff, it was evident that both teams had come to play their best. The game opened with the Panthers receiving and 15 plays later including eight complete passes by Dereun Dortch, Chaffey was in the endzone and the scoring volley began. The Corsairs quickly answered back with a TD of their own. The momentum didn't let up and by the half the teams were at 34-17 with the Chaffey squads outpacing Santa Monica offensively and defensively.
The second half went much as anticipated with the Panthers continuing to shine. Jayson Cortes scored twice in the 2nd half including a 37-yard run. In total the freshman running back had four TDs and 240 yards. Dortch had two rushing touchdowns and threw for 191 yards. Freshman wide receiver Dorion Levingston led the Panther offense with nine receptions including two TDs.
Anthony Haan was 7:8 on extra points.
"Our team continues to improve," said Head Coach Darrin Chiaverini. "I felt offensively we took a step forward in creating explosive plays and our defense was tested early and answered the call in the second half."
The Panthers head to LA Southwest this Saturday before returning home to Grigsby for the September 30th Tailgate Game vs Pasadena.
