MT. SAN JACINTO, Calif. - College of the Desert football capped off their 2015 season in thrilling fashion, as a late touchdown drive propelled them to a 55-51 victory over Mt. San Jacinto Saturday afternoon that clinched the American Mountain League crown.
Down 51-48 with just over a minute to play, sophomore quarterback Stephen Johnson II (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos HS) orchestrated a two-play, 75-yard drive that scored on a 72 yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver, Tristian Buyck (Montgomery, AL/Sydney Lanier HS).
In his final game leading the Roadrunners, Johnson completed 29 of 51 passes for 388 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran the ball 15 times for 42 yards and an additional score. Buyck led the receiving corps with nine catches for 129 yards and three touchdowns, while freshman running back Anthony Ellison (Banning, CA/Banning HS) added seven catches for 102 yards and one touchdown.
College of the Desert football finishes the season at 6-4 overall, with their 6-1 mark in the American Mountain League clinching the conference championship.
