GCC Football battles but falls to Santa Ana 17-7 Sept. 16

In a game that was actually closer than the final score, the GCC Football team fell to visiting Santa Ana College 17-7 Saturday Sept. 16 in a non-league game at Sartoris Field.

But despite the closeness of the score, the Vaqueros had trouble generating offense all night as they totaled just 84 yards overall, 52 in the air and 32 on the ground while the Dons had 302 yards combined on the ground and in the air. Dylan Hassid had 46 yards on eight completions in 16 attempts and Peter Cortes was the leading rusher with 27 yards on seven carries. The lone score for Glendale was a 20-yard pass from Hassid to Francisco Navarro that made the score 7-7 after the extra point by Yahya Hilal tied the game in the second quarter.

Dario Sandoval led the GCC defense with nine tackles, six solo and Chuck Shull, Charlie Stewart and Jeff Eisenhart had five tackles.

Glendale continues non-league play next week with a 1 p.m. home game on Saturday 23 against Compton College.
