Football falters at Santa Barbara

The Raiders traveled up the coast to take on former American Pacific foe Santa Barbara and came away with a 30-22 loss. With the loss the Raiders are now 0-6 in National Northern action, 2-7 overall.

It was another auspicious start for the Raiders as they took the opening kick-off and went three and out before Daniel Burke's punt was blocked. Santa Barbara recovered at the Moorpark 25 and 3 plays later, the Raiders were down 7-0.

On their next series, MaCloud Corwton got going completing 6 passes on a 13 play 70yard drive that ended with a Burke missed field goal. Both teams exchanged series as the defenses controlled the rest of the quarter.

The second quarter started with the Raiders driving but the Santa Barbara's defense kept Crowton out of sync. Once again the teams exchanged punts and with the Raiders getting the ball back, Crowton went back to work. Crowton found River Stout for 27 yards that took the ball to the SBCC 14 yard line. From there Crowton found his year long favorite reciever Noah Cronquist. Burke's PAT made it 7-7, 10:06 2nd quarter. After the next Raider series sputtered, SBCC took the ensuing punt for a score. 14-7 SB. The Raiders came right back and looking at 3rd and 2 at their 37, Crowton found Cronquist over the middle and Cronquist was of to the races for a 63yard TD reception, 14-14 halftime.

In the second half, SBCC double downed on the QB pressure and was marred with unsportmanlike penalties mainly against Santa Barbara. Meanwhile SB scored twice and the Raiders were trailing 28-14 going into the 4th. With penalties hampering the pace of play, the Raiders were able to stop on a 4th and goal, but the Raiders couldn't get a first and was forced to punt from their one. SBCC blocked the punt and got the safety. 30-14.

With 8:26 remaining, the Raiders made it interesting. They went 90 yards on 11 plays down to 5 yard. After a sac, completed pass, and a rushing loss the Raiders were looking at a 4th and goal at the 11. On 4th down, Crowton rolled out finding Gabriel Landless for a TD. 30-22. Going for two, Crowton found Brian Scurlock for the conversion. 30-22, 4:35 left. Santa Barbara got the ball back but Bertin Placid picked off SB QB at midfield. 3:01 left. With the Raiders looking to tie and driving, Crowton threw his only intercepton of the night.

The Raiders will next travel to Antelope Valley, Saturday, 11/11 at 2pm.
