Trevonte Coleman, who leads the Marauders on defense, became a two-way player for the first time and it was enough to give AVC the lift necessary to win its first game at home and in the American Pacific Conference this season.
Coleman carried the ball eight times for 38 yards and two touchdowns. He scored the first of the game on a 14 yard effort. His second put the Marauders ahead for good - one yard plunge that ended a 65 yard drive by AVC to take a 14-13 lead. Coleman also had one tackle on the night.
The Vaqueros had dominated the second quarter scoring twice, and it was nearly an all run game as Glendale's top QB, Grant Kraemer, went out in the last game with a broken arm. That run game picked up 185 yards, many in the second.
Blake Shepherd closed the Marauder scoring with a 23 yard pass to Derek Denton with 6:47 to go to give AVC the 24-13 lead. James Augusta hit his first field goal of the season - a 28 yarder - late in the third.
Shepherd passed for 205 yards on the night which moves him to fourth in season passing for the Marauders with 1710 yards in six games. He is just 21 yards from the third spot, and 626 yards from the record with four games remaining.
Defensively for AVC, Adam Suruy had 11 tackles, eight of them solo and one a sack, while Graeson Vereen recorded nine solo take downs with one assisted.
