Saddleback (5-2) at Riverside (7-0) highlights Week 9 SCFA matchups

WEEK 8 RECAP | RESULTS
It was a week of blowouts in the SCFA. Riverside had the most-lopsided win, taking out Southwestern 61-0 to remain unbeaten at 7-0. Long Beach set a new school record for points scored with its 79-17 win at Orange Coast. Santa Ana moved to 6-1 with its 57-0 shutout over Compton. And Saddleback cruised to a big 62-21 win at Grossmont. Saddleback has won five straight after starting the season 0-2. Fullerton was a 48-19 winner over Palomar, Mt. SAC won at East Los Angeles 48-17, and Chaffey handled Desert 41-27 to all remain perfect at 7-0 this season with three games to play.

WEEK 8 SCFA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Offensive: Will Madonna, Long Beach (QB, 6-2, 207, So., Lakewood, CA/Mayfair HS)
Madonna had a huge game passing as well as running the ball in Long Beach's win at Orange Coast. Madonna tossed 5 touchdowns while completing 17 of 21 passes for 409 yards with no interceptions. His 2 rushes on the day went for TDs as well, scoring on runs of 14 and 46 yards.

Defensive: Chandler Carthan, Citrus (LB, 6-0, 235, So., Chino Hills, CA/Ayala HS)
Carthan had 10 tackles, including an eight-yard sack and 3.5 tackles for loss in Citrus' win at Cerritos. He also grabbed an interception and returned it for 18 yards.

Special Teams/All-Purpose: Kyle Miller, Long Beach (WR, 6-1, 245, So., Downey, CA/Warren HS)
Miller came up big for Long Beach on special teams against Orange Coast as he recorded 3 blocked punts. Miller also grabbed 5 receptions for 84 yards and scored on a 34-yard touchdown.

TOP-10 STATE RANKINGS
Riverside continues to hold the No. 2 spot in both the JCAB and CCCSIA state polls released on Oct. 23. The Tigers are followed by Mt. SAC at No. 3 and Fullerton in the No. 4 spot. Golden West moved up one position to No. 7 while Ventura is listed No. 10 in the JCAB and No. 12 in the CCCSIA polls.

LET'S GO FOR 8-0 | WEEK 9 SCHEDULE/SCOREBOARD
Earlier this week, SCFA commissioner Jim Sartoris announced forfeits by Grossmont and Compton. Fullerton was awarded a forfeit win over the Griffins while Chaffey picked up the forfeit victory from the Tartars. Both teams moved to 8-0 overall this season. In live action on Saturday, Riverside hosts Saddleback in a big Southern League game and Mt. SAC plays Orange Coast at home in a Central League battle. Both RCC and Mt. SAC are looking to go 8-0.
