SCFA Week 10 Preview: Santa Ana battles Chaffey for top spot in American Metro

WEEK 9 RECAP | RESULTS
Mt. San Antonio, Riverside, Fullerton, and Chaffey all continued their unbeaten seasons. Mt. SAC routed Orange Coast 72-13, Riverside shutout Saddleback 39-0 in a battle for first place in the Central League, Fullerton was the recipient of a forfeit victory over Grossmont, as was Chaffey getting a win by forfeit from Compton. Golden West, Santa Ana, and Pasadena all picked up wins to move to 7-1 overall.

WEEK 9 SCFA PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Offensive: James Odom, San Diego Mesa (QB, 6-2, 210, So., La Mesa, CA/Grossmont HS)
Odom tossed 6 touchdowns and threw for 272 yards to help lead San Diego Mesa to a 49-8 win at Southwestern. He completed 15 of 20 passes with no interceptions. Odom also ran 5 times for 49 yards.

Defensive: EJ Smith, Cerritos (LB, 6-1, 227, Fr., Downey, CA/Warren HS)

In the 34-20 Cerritos win over San Bernardino Valley College, EJ Smith picked off two passes and returned both of them for touchdowns. He brought back a 26-yard interception for touchdown in the first quarter and then closed out the team scoring with an 87-yard interception return. Smith also posted three tackles in the game.

Special Teams/All-Purpose: Devon Miles, Mt. San Antonio (RB, 5-11, 180, Danville, IL/Danville HS)
On his lone return of the game, Miles ran back an Orange Coast kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. He also added a 19-yard rushing TD in Mt. SAC's 72-13 win.

TOP-10 STATE RANKINGS

Riverside continues to hold the top spot among SCFA teams in the state rankings. The Tigers are ranked No. 1 in the CCCSIA poll and are No. 2 in the JCAB rankings. Mt. SAC checks in at No. 3 in both, Fullerton follows at No. 4, with Golden West No. 7, Ventura No. 9, and El Camino moving up to No. 10.

Earlier this week, SCFA commissioner Jim Sartoris announced Compton would forfeit its second straight game as Victor Valley received a forfeit win. Undefeated teams will look to keep their streaks going as Riverside (8-0) travels to San Diego Mesa (5-3), Mt. SAC (8-0) heads to Long Beach (4-4), Fullerton (8-0) is at Saddleback (5-3), and Chaffey (8-0) hosts Santa Ana (7-1) in a battle for first place in the American Metro League. In the National Northern, El Camino (4-1 NCL) travels to Ventura (5-0 NCL) in a big game. Golden West (5-0 NCL) looks to keep pace with Mt. SAC in the National Central, the Rustlers play at Cerritos (4-4).
