Postseason Matchups Announced by 3C2A, SCFA

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP BRACKET

SACRAMENTO – College of San Mateo (9-1), the defending 3C2A football champion, will open the 2023 state playoffs as the north's top seed and host Modesto (7-3) on Saturday, Nov. 25 while undefeated Mt. San Antonio (10-0) is the south's No. 1 seed and will face Riverside City (9-1), last year's other finalist.

Those two regional semifinal games will join the other two semis on the same day. Third-seeded Ventura (7-3) travels to second-seeded Fullerton (10-0) in the south and third-seeded City College of San Francisco (9-1) takes to the road to square off against second-seeded American River (9-1) in the other north matchup.

The Southern California Football Association and the Northern California Football Conference championship games will be held on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the site of the higher seeds with the four teams vying for a spot in the 3C2A Championship game on Saturday, Dec. 9. The title matchup will be hosted by the SCFA champion.

The SCFA semifinalists are the same four teams that advanced last year but the matchups will be different. Last season, Riverside City entered as the No. 1 seed and beat Ventura and Fullerton en route to a berth in the state championship. San Mateo, meanwhile, headlines three returning teams to the NCFC semifinal and is facing Modesto for the second straight year in the opening round. American River, another returnee, advanced to the regional final in 2022 after beating Laney, 43-21.

City College of San Francisco is back in the playoffs for the first time since winning the 2021 state championship, the eighth in school history. Mt. San Antonio has four state banners, Fullerton has two and Riverside City and San Mateo each have one.

Host San Mateo defeated Riverside City, 55-0, in last year's state championship.
